| The Culinary Institute of America, a private, not-for profit college dedicated to providing the world’s best professional culinary education, received scholarship funds. CIA teaches its students the general knowledge and specific skills necessary to live successful lives and to grow into positions of influence and leadership in their chosen profession. FRESHFARM Markets received a grant to establish a scholarship within the Farmer Fund to be used to assist young farmers in their education. FRESHFARM Markets is dedicated to building a vibrant local food movement in the DC area that supports the region’s farmers, protects threatened farmland and creates a new rural-urban partnership. The Institute of Culinary Education teaches toward the broad diversity of opportunities, personalities, and cuisines that make up today's culinary world. For example, while they know that most of their graduates will pursue restaurant careers, they support and encourage the efforts of those who want to travel other paths as caterers, cake decorators, food writers, personal chefs or culinary entrepreneurs. James Beard Foundation is at the center of America’s culinary community, dedicated to exploring the way food enriches our lives. Its mission is to celebrate, preserve, and nurture America’s culinary heritage and diversity in order to elevation the appreciation of our culinary excellence. |
Northern Virginia Community College - Hospitality and Community Arts Program covers the study of the management and operation of hotels, restaurants and institutional food service facilities, along with culinary arts education and nutrition management. Share Our Strength received a grant to support their mission to make sure no kid in America grows up hungry. Share Our Strength is a national organization that finds childhood hunger where it hides and works hard to end it. Special Operations Warrior Foundation received funds to set up a special culinary scholarship. The Foundation provides full scholarship grants and educational and family counseling to the surviving children of special operations personnel who die in operational or training missions. Tyler Elementary School serves grades PK-5 in the District of Columbia Public Schools. The school’s After Care and Outdoor initiative received a grant to purchase plants and seeds and other tools for the Outdoor Classroom; and cooking equipment and supplied for the After-Care cooking program. |
